How To Make A Vision Board, That Actually Works

By Marie Tavernier

What is a Vision Board?

First of all there are so many different terms, so much so that the meaning of a vision board has been lost in translation, somewhere along the line.

“If you’ve ever heard it referred to as a mood, dream, goal, collage or any derivative of the above, please know these are all terms for a vision board; with one exception.”

A vision board, has a vision for the future, it’s concept derives from having a clear business vision & mission statement. A business with no clear vision or goal is – asking for trouble!

Much is the same for your life.

“Your brain will work tirelessly to achieve the statements you give your subconscious mind. And when those statements are the affirmations and images of your goals, you are destined to achieve them!” – Marie Tavernier

Vision board ideas and examples are incredibly useful and inspirational when making your own. I’ve designed this post to show you how to make your own vision boards and how to use them to maximize your visualization practice! Also known as dream boards, these simple devices are one of the most valuable visualization tools available to you. The inspirational collages serve as your image of the future – a tangible example, idea or representation of where you are going. They should represent your dreams, your goals, and your ideal life.

By representing your goals with pictures and images you will actually strengthen and stimulate your emotions because your mind responds strongly to visual stimulation… and your emotions are the vibrational energy that activates the Law of Attraction. The saying “A picture is worth a thousand words,” certainly holds true here. If you have already defined your dreams, it’s time to illustrate them visually.

A Vision Board for Goal Setting

The best way to achieve your goals is to keep them top of mind, so you’re always looking for ways to move yourself closer to them – and a vision board is the perfect tool to help you do that.

By putting a vision board somewhere you can see it every day, you will prompt yourself to visualize your ideal life on a regular basis. And that’s important because visualization activates the creative powers of your subconscious mind and programs your brain to notice available resources that were always there but escaped your notice. Through the Law of Attraction, visualization also magnetizes and attracts to you the people, resources, and opportunities you need to achieve your goal.

By adding a visualization practice to your daily routine, you will naturally become more motivated to reach your goals. You’ll start to notice you are unexpectedly doing things that move you closer to your ideal life. Suddenly, you find yourself volunteering to take on more responsibility at work, speaking out at staff meetings, asking more directly for what you want, and taking more risks in your personal and professional life – and experiencing bigger pay-offs.

Making A Vision Board can be very powerful because you can clearly see your goals every morning, every night and every single day….

Having the ability to visualize your goals, can and will lead to the manifestation of your goals in real time. Have you ever read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill…..if not you should! As he explains it best

How to Create a Dynamic Vision Board Today

Find pictures that represent or symbolize the experiences, feelings, and possessions you want to attract into your life, and place them in your board. Have fun with the process! Use photographs, magazine cutouts, pictures from the Internet–whatever inspires you. Be creative. Include not only pictures, but anything that speaks to you.

Consider including a picture of yourself on your board. If you do, choose one that was taken in a happy moment. You will also want to post your affirmations, inspirational words, quotations, and thoughts here. Choose words and images that inspire you and make you feel good.

You can use your vision board to depict goals and dreams in all areas of your life, or in just one specific area that you are focusing on. Keep it neat, and be selective about what you place in your vision board. It’s a good idea to avoid creating a cluttered or chaotic board… you don’t want to attract chaos into your life.

Use only the words and images that best represent your purpose, your ideal future, and words that inspire positive emotions in you. There is beauty in simplicity and clarity. Too many images and too much information will be distracting and harder to focus on.

If you are working on visualizing and creating changes in many areas of your life, then you may want to use more than one vision board. You might use one for your personal goals and another for career and financial goals. You might even want to keep your career vision board at the office or on your desk as a means of inspiration and affirmation. Whatever you decide to do, learning how to make a vision board – and using it regularly – is the best way to visualize your ideas and dreams to fruition.

Ever Considered An Online Vision Board?

Here are The Steps I've Used to Create One

1. I listed out all my dreams in chronological order in my Evernote notebook.

2. I searched for images for each of my dream on Pexels, Pixabay and in my phone.

3 I used Canva for free to create all the images on my Vision Board individually to add all the texts I want within the images.

4. At the same time, I used PhotoCap to edit some images. You can use any photo editor like PhotoShop, etc. However there are other free programs via microsoft.

5. I then used Canva to put all the images into one piece of image.

6. I downloaded the image and created an online board which became my laptop wallpaper & phone screensaver

7. If you want to, you could also visit a local stationary shop to purchase “Plastic Corrugated Board” print the downloaded vision board and paste the printed paper onto the board.
This can then be used as your printable vision board, to be hung on your bedroom or office wall. “two birds, one stone”

Your Board could look something like this:

vision boards

If you’re looking for proof on how, when and why a vision board works; you’ve certainly come to the correct place.

In the summer of 2007, on my way to the bank; heavily pregnant and counting every penny I spent until my first baby arrived, I was focused on planning for the future and consolidating my finances; planning my next move whilst sitting on the bus – i was ready for change and not waiting for a miracle to occur. As i descended from my bus, I was stopped by a smart casual and seemingly down to earth gentleman who was selling books on Notting Hill High Rd. I have always tried to support the work of creative hustlers, people who grab their goals with both hands and shoot for the stars, i love the type of people who say screw you to the powers that be and take cation toward making their own success.

Well this man, was one of those people, he approached, presented his self-published book and proceeded to request the fee of £5, did i turn him down…..absolutely not, i didn’t even hesitate to accept.

You might be wondering why i would even mention hesitation, i mean £5 does not seem like a lot and in 2018 it can barely by you a large coffee, let alone someones hard work, but in my then current financial state, barely employed, pregnant and single, £5 was everything. The other surprising factor was, I was not an avid reader, in fact apart from college literature and work related articles, I didn’t read! So this sudden enthusiasm to purchase was shocking to say the least, but what was to transpire next was the most shocking of all…

how i created £10k with my vision board

"Your brain will work tirelessly to achieve the statements you give your subconscious mind. And when those statements are the affirmations and images of your goals, you are destined to achieve them!"

The Creation Of Change

After completing my errands, i continued my journey back home on the bus and during that journey I began reading, I was so engrossed i missed my stop, but i didn’t care it was just too good to put down. I went home and finished the entire thing in a day. I was hooked!

What was it I hear you asking – The book is written by self published author and screenplay writer Von Mozar, the title is Sexfiend and can be read HERE……lol I knew you weren’t expecting that.

Fast forward 3months, I’ve given birth to my baby girl and somehow in and amongst the nappies, breastfeeding, bottles and sleepless nights I had become an avid reader. Somehow over the course of this time I was introduced to a book that would open more doors – I say somehow because I really can’t pinpoint the occurrence but it was a good one.

The book was ‘The Secret‘ by Rhonda Byrne a bestseller of its time and would open the doors to awakening many toward their purpose – so of course once again I was engrossed and subsequently became an expert in the law of attraction, buying every book, audio series and video I could lay my hands on.

The obsession became a 10 year love affair ( my longest to date, but that’s another story……lol) of books and all things LOA; that’s Law of Attraction between friends.

you want a positive mindset? now you can

I was encouraged through my research to begin creating vision boards, selecting pictures from the internet and putting them on a sheet of paper, so I being the millennial (surprising fact) I am, chose to do the cost effective option by opening a ‘Word’ document on my PC and I stuck them all on there, looking over the pictures every day, then every week, then once every few weeks when I remembered; all the time wondering when it was going to appear.

*Ps. The author Von Mozar – do you think I attracted him to create my first self-published book?

Well, i did just that and 9 years after our first ever encounter I was working closely with him to complete my first book – From Little Acorns Grow A Forest

The Moment A Vision Board Changed My Life

how to create the life you want

But then one day in 2014, whilst at home on my second maternity leave I began thinking about all the things I had manifested from my vision boards over the years (sometimes we forget to stop and smell the roses!). I had realised that my ability to manifest/create what I desired had slowed down and I needed to know why, so I could fix it. One thing came to mind and I realised all my effort was time sensitive. I manifested when my goals were my close to number 1 priority, a daily priority, in other words; when I became impatient or allowed other factors i.e. tasks, work, social life etc to become more important than using my vision board, my ability to gain the things or experiences I wanted became non-existent.

So, I upped my game by becoming more self aware and realigning my priorities.

I began utilising my vision board daily, alongside my top 3 proven techniques:

I visualised

I afformed

I let Go.

1. Visualization

To visualize is to imagine. So I begin by imagining myself with and within all the things and experiences I want and desire. I want you to go back to a child like state, use your mind as a tool to guide you toward the places you need to see, touch and emotively experience. Most of us who desire to travel like a boss; use the phrase because we want the freedom to travel and explore in some form of luxury, so if this is the case for you, begin by imagining yourself booking the ticket to your ideal destination/s, checking in online , boarding the plane in your preferred seat, flying with ease and in complete harmony, landing safely and checking into your ideal hotel. Now, imagine the feeling of the sun and heat grazing your face out on the private balcony as you bask the luxury of your chosen accommodation. Imagine going for a stroll along the private beach, the feel of the sand between your toes, the food and cocktails and of course the new people and attractions you’ll experience during your stay.

How does that make you feel?

2. Afformations

A technique I came across in 2009, during my obsessive compulsive faze of researching everything L.O.A Noah St John, the man that made my frustrations become my catalyst for change and relatively easy and not to mention quick manifesting. Noah St John discovered  a technique that would revolutionize the way we manifest/attract things and experiences into our lives. If you’ve ever heard of the term affirmations i.e. the ability to speak positive reinforcement into your consciousness with repetitive statements i.e. I am beautiful, I am healthy, I am wealthy etc.

Noah’s technique of Afformations, deliberately uses the statement of affirmations but aligns it with positive and life affirming questions, which not only reinforces the statement but also demands that your subconscious searches for the answer to the question you’ve chosen e.g. Why am I so healthy? When said with repitition, your mind has no choice but search for the answer, feeding you with positive suggestions to align your life with the statement/question you’ve asked i.e. visiting your doctor for a full check up, changing your eating habits, becoming a regular exerciser and joining the gym, quitting smoking and reducing alcohol intake, reducing stress levels by changing career, meditation etc. All of these options are not new to you, however you’ve asked as if it were true by Afforming it into the present.

If you want to learn more on this topic I strongly suggest going to the source and reading Noah’s books HERE, one of which I have been featured in (The book of afformations) as I upped my salary by x 4 in 2011 with the use of daily Afformations. Within 5 months I went from earning £27k to £60K plus. Read more

3. Letting Go

This technique is probably the most important of all 3.

Letting go of all you have asked for is probably the hardest thing you can do, especially after all the time effort spent visualizing, affirming and afforming and now you have to forget about it, right? Correct!

At this stage in your daily routine you have to go to bed knowing that all is well and that all you’ve asked for is on its way to you. This takes trust and an understanding that doubt and fear is exactly what has delayed the creation of your best days and experiences. So, the alternative is to let go allowing your mind to be free from anxiety and allowing the universal Law of Attraction the time to meet you in the middle….and it will.

Trust the process, do not rush the process because nothing before it rightful time and anything that does appear before its rightful time was not meant for you. I should know!

After giving birth to my second child in 2014, I did all of the above asking one simple question daily and visualizing how it would make me feel. The question: Why have I been given £10,000 today?

Within 3 months I had the money, within  6 months I used the money to purchase my very first 4 x 4 vehicle, virtually identical to the one on my vision board. As you now know this is only 1 of the many things I’ve attracted over the years, the list is very long and will be detailed in a future post. However for now, the point is clear, know what you want, be specific, visualize it and ask for what you desire as if it were already here. IT WORKS, when YOU do!

** I love my vision boards and now I have large cork-boards on my bedroom wall, because ‘Word’ documents just don’t cut it anymore.

how i made £10k with my vision board

Follow these steps and please let me know how you get on in the comments below.

By the way here are some of the tools I use to make my vision boards the manifesting genies they are:

why because ‘word’ documents just don’t cut it anymore. Most importantly i love these because they allow you to put more of your goals and affirmations in one place, you can get creative and most importantly when placed in a prominent place on your wall, you have no choice but to see it in all its glory and begin creating!

Sounds straight forward enough, but some people forget about this then go to get creative with all the tools but forget the most used item. So too save you from the frustration, I’ve included it for you here.
these are sometimes included in a small pack with your corkboard, but they are usually coloured with only a few in a small pack. These ones are my personal favourites as they are clear and do not distract from the design of your board.
You will see from the picture of my vision board that I like to design my own by putting colourred paper in the background and then sticking my pictures on top, I usually go for a white background but that’s just me and sometimes certain boards call for a little more pop.
That reminds me you will need some glue to stick the papaer to the edges of your cork board as well as other items to the center.

Law Of Attraction Life Planner

Before completing my vision boards, I always sit down with my life planner to arrange my thoughts and the importance of each of my goals. The best way to do this is to write them down first. Having them in black and white will help in separating your goals, life, business & personal. You can also see if any of them still apply. Too often we think we want the 5 bedroom house with heated pool, but is that really what you need, can you afford it or even maintain it and will it make you happy. Write them down first and then assess your emotion toward it before putting it on your vision board.
